You can't find a better brand of football than that played in Texas class 5A. When you have a player with two all-district selections as a sophomore and junior, you know he's a legitimate talent. Such is the case with Trent Gow, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound tight end from Mansfield, Texas, who committed to Air Force after attending the October 6th game with Navy.
You can't find a better brand of football than that played in Texas 5A. When you have a player with two all-district selections as a sophomore and junior, you know he's a legitimate talent. Such is the case with
Trent Gow
, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound tight end from Mansfield, Texas, who committed to
Air Force
after attending the October 6th game with
Navy
.
"It was October the 12th when I called the office and told Coach Rudzinski I was ready to commit," said Trent Gow. "He was happy about it and had a lot of positive things to say to me afterwards. I still haven't talked to Coach Calhoun [on the commitment], but I plan to speak to him when I go back to Air Force for the
Hawaii
game. I want to take my granddad, mom, dad, and sisters to show them the campus. I'll take my official in January."
Gow chose Air Force over offers from Central Arkansas and
Georgia State
, but
UTEP
planned on offering the week of his commitment. Also, Texas was in talks with Gow on a grayshirt offer and Gow was receiving strong interest from
LSU
. It was Air Force, however, that "felt right" to Gow.
"It was the academy overall that sold me on committing," Gow stated. "The coaches are all awesome and the education is one of the best you can receive. The campus and the city of Colorado Springs are both beautiful. I've looked into the military aspect and have heard nothing but positives from people in my church, Gary Davis, a former player at Mansfield, and other cadets I met on my visit. My grandfather on my father's side was in the Navy, so serving in the military is in our family."
At Mansfield High School, Gow plays a combination of tight end, fullback, and long snapper. This year's Tigers game is 5-3 and has a big game this weekend with Cedar Hill.
"This is pretty much a must win for us," Gow said. "It's a big game for both teams. It's going to be televised on Fox Sports Southwest. I play more of a traditional tight end in a power I. We run the ball 90-percent of the time, but I do get some passes thrown my way. I've caught two touchdown passes this season. I run well and have pretty good hands. I've matured in my game having played three years on varsity. I think what's most noticeable this year is an improvement in my speed and athleticism."
Air Force was Gow's first offer back in April. He plans on not playing any other sports after his season ends and focusing on working out to prepare himself for basic training in June.
