Air Force came back home after winning the All-Military Classic Tournament to face the two DII teams on their out-of-conference (OOC) schedule. It was their first home games of the season and it was a very good homecoming for the Falcons.
Air Force
hosted Western State in their home opener and surprised not only the Mountaineer’s, but their fans as will with a 102-63 win. Air Force was paced by a career high with 23 points from senior center
Taylor Broekhuis
who ran through Western State inside the lane and by making 2-of-2 3-point shots outside the arc. He was pushed for high scorer by freshman Cam Michaels off the bench with 18 points and senior Mike Lyons 15 points. The theme of senior leadership continued as starting guard
Todd Fletcher
had an exceptional game with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and no turnovers in 25 minutes of play.
Game two of the home stand was another good game for the Falcons who were 83-43 winners over DII Regis University. The score was different but the story was the same. Balanced scoring came from the team with four in double figures with Mike Lyons leading the way with 15 points and paced by Cam Michaels off the bench. Taylor Broekhuis and freshman Tre’ Coggins backed up their teammates with 13 points each. Highlights of this game were limited minutes for the starters (allowing rest after the short turnaround time between games), 41 points off the bench and the exceptional play of freshmen Michael and Coggins.
It does not get easy for the Falcons in this week’s matchups. Air Force will face Montana State on Thanksgiving Eve who come into Clune Arena at 1-1. They are a big team with 7 players over 225 pounds and two 'bigs' at 250 pounds. This will be a physical matchup for Air Force. The following Sunday the Falcons travel to Boulder to face No. 23
Colorado
Buff’s. Air Force lost to Colorado at home in last year’s meeting in overtime. This will be a very good test for our Falcons.
Happy Thanksgiving to all and Go Falcons.
