Matthews (N.C.) Jireh Prep wide receiver Christian Cumberlander took an official visit to San Diego State this past weekend.

"It went well," Cumberlander said. "I like the stuff they offered as a school. I got a chance to meet the coaches so it was a good experience."

The Aztecs brought an all-out blitz for Cumberlander who was hosted by SDSU starting quarterback Adam Dingwell on the visit. The two of them spent their Friday night hanging out with fullback Chad Young and left tackle Bryce Quigley.

"We talked about the offense and stuff on how I can come in be a key part to the offense," Cumberlander explained. "It wasn't any pressure or anything. We were just talking about football."

Cumberlander was able to meet the entire staff too.

"I got a chance to meet coach [Rocky] Long," Cumberlander said. "He was very cool. I met coach [Tony] White and the rest of the coaches. They had a real nice family feel. It was nice."

Wide receivers coach LeCharls McDaniel is the lead recruiter for the 6-foot-3, 195-pound prospect and made an excellent recruiting pitch during the offensive film session.

"Coach Long and McDaniel were like you are the guy we want to bring in and play receiver because they need a big body, guy who can move and get out of cuts," Cumberlander expressed. "They made me feel wanted a lot. We watched film and went over the West Coast terminology. Talked about how the west coast offense is more deep vertical routes that are like 13-to-15 yards."

While Cumberlander did not commit during the official visit, things are looking positive for the Aztecs.

"I haven't finalized who is in my top-tier of schools but San Diego State has a spot in that group," Cumberlander said. "I know San Diego State will be in there."

SDSU coaches will spend back-to-back weeks in Georgia for in-home visits with the prep star before National Signing Day. Coach White is expected to visit this week and coach McDaniel will be there the following week.

The recruiting didn't stop with the Aztec coaches and players. There were a couple other official visitors who were trying to get the east coast native to pull the trigger.

"The two defensive backs [Malik Smith and Kalan Montgomery] tried to make me commit," Cumberlander discussed. "They were real cool and I have a close relationship with them."

"I also spent a lot of my time in the hotel with Serg [Sergio Phillips]. His mom was like don't worry about family and when your mom can't be out here, I can be your mom. She tried to recruit me a little bit."

Does San Diego State's top priority have a timetable for his recruitment?

"Probably end up taking two more visits [expected to visit Houston this upcoming weekend]," Cumberlander said. "I'm signing on signing day. Me and my mom are going to talk and if I get to the point where I have a clear cut winner then I'll go ahead and commit so I wont have to deal with all the hassle."
